Many know that chronic poor posture will lead to pain, strain and after many years, likely osteoarthritis. That is the physical toll. What many are unaware of the anatomical relationship between the Spine and the Nervous System and how that may affect your functional health. This relationship was demonstrated.
Taking the time for proper warmup and cool down was encouraged as well as the importance of focusing on form/technique while exercising.
Poor ergonomics associated with sitting, sleeping and pronated feet was explained. Possible solutions included ergonomic adjustments, specific exercises as well as supportive shoes and the usefulness of custom foot orthotics.

Trivia: Did you know that the maximum number of players on a soccer team is 11 and that it is played on a grassy field called a Pitch? Did you know that the earliest versions of the game can be traced back 3,000 years and that in Europe during the Middle Ages, soccer balls were made from inflated pig bladders? Did you know that Women’s soccer is more popular than ever, with over 30 million women playing soccer worldwide?
During this lively session, “Fun Football Facts” like the ones above were explored, as well as the importance of posture and injury prevention. Specifically, Dr. Nick’s goal was to show how common postural issues (like upper cross and lower cross syndrome) affect posture and how it affects both your health and athletic performance. Exercises to improve dynamic posture were demonstrated.
Moving on to injuries, the most common soccer injuries for women’s soccer were mentioned. These include ACL Injuries, Ankle Sprains, Concussions, as well as Quadriceps and Hamstring Strains. Prevention Strategies for these common injuries were presented to the group.
